SUMMARY
British band Coldplay has announced a new show in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The band has been performing all around the world as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. Indian fans are excited to see the band return after a nine-year break. Check all the details.
Coldplay had previously announced shows in Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025, marking the band's most-awaited return to India after a nine-year hiatus
Adding to the ongoing excitement surrounding their upcoming concerts, British rock band Coldplay has announced an additional concert for January 2025 as part of their global tour, now in Ahmedabad. The band will now perform in Gujarat’s Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25. This show will follow the three shows lined up for Mumbai.
Tickets for the show will go live on BookMyShow on Saturday, November 16, at 12 pm. The netizens would know better to book as soon as they can, as recent history shows that Coldplay's concert tickets tend to sell out within minutes.
The band announced the new show on Wednesday, November 13, through a post on their social media platforms including Instagram and X (previously Twitter).
“The band will play their biggest-ever show, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 25 January, 2025. Tickets on sale Saturday, 16 November at 12 pm IST.” their post read on X.
Like the Mumbai shows, ticket bookings for the Ahmedabad concert will follow a virtual queue system with an online waiting room. Once the sale begins, fans will be given queue positions through an Automated Queue Randomisation System.
Coldplay had previously announced shows in Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025, marking the band's most-awaited return to India after a nine-year hiatus. They last performed in India in 2016 at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai. During that performance, they greeted fans with Namaste and hoisted the Indian flag.
Fans can expect to hear some of Coldplay's greatest hits from their iconic albums, including Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You, Viva La Vida, Paradise and Adventure of a Lifetime.
With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, the band is among the best-selling music acts in history. They also made history as the first group to reach 90 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Recognized for their exceptional achievements, the band holds the record for the most Brit Awards won by any group. In the UK, Coldplay has three albums listed among the top 50 best-selling, and they hold the record for the most UK Albums Chart number-one hits without ever dropping out of the top 10. Additionally, they were ranked as the most-played group of the 21st century in the country.
The band includes pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey, who is also their creative director.
Coldplay has already performed in Asia, Latin America, Europe, North America and Australia in the last two years as a part of their ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Although ticket prices aren’t out for the Ahmedabad show yet, they are expected to be similar to the Mumbai ones:
Fans are advised not to exit or refresh once they are in the queue to hold their positions. They can book a maximum of four tickets per user and will get four minutes to complete the booking, similar to the September sale.
Back in September when the band initially announced its shows in Mumbai, more than 13 million fans of the band were ready to be hooked to BookMyShow, the ticketing platform handling sales for Coldplay's concert, to get their hands on the tickets. To handle the overwhelming traffic, BookMyShow used a virtual queueing system, which caused a brief delay but was intended to ensure a fair process for genuine buyers.
Allegedly, there was an unauthorised resale of tickets through third-party platforms like Viagogo and Gigsberg after the tickets were sold out. Mumbai Police even summoned the CEO and a senior executive of BookMyShow regarding the matter alleging the black market sale of Coldplay concert tickets, and the platform issued a statement clarifying its stance later.
The tickets which were officially on sale priced between ₹2,500 and ₹35,000 were being sold for exorbitant prices as high as ₹3 lakh, according to reports. Additionally, many individuals also participated in this unethical practice and tried selling the tickets for almost ten times the original price on social media platforms.
