In a post on X, Rijiju said that on the recommendation of the government, Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session, 2026.

“The Session will commence on 28 January 2026 and continue till 2 April 2026. The first phase concludes on 13 February 2026, with Parliament reassembling on 9 March 2026,” he said.

However, Rijiju did not share details on the date of the presentation of the Budget.

February 1, which has been fixed as the Budget Day since 2017, falls on a Sunday this year.

The Budget session will begin with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to the joint session of the Parliament in the Lok Sabha chamber.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her ninth consecutive Union Budget during the session, becoming the only finance minister to achieve this milestone.

With this, Sitharaman will also move closer to the record held by former prime minister Morarji Desai, who presented 10 Union budgets across two stints as finance minister.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram had presented nine budgets, while Pranab Mukherjee, who later became President, presented eight budgets during his tenure as finance minister.
