The iPhone 16 now starts at ₹69,900, while the iPhone 16 Plus begins at ₹79,900.

Apple on Tuesday announced price cuts of up to ₹10,000 on its iPhone 16 lineup in India, following the global unveiling of the iPhone 17 series at its annual September launch event.

The iPhone 16, introduced in September 2024, now starts at ₹69,900 for the 128GB variant, down from ₹79,900 earlier.

The larger iPhone 16 Plus has also become more affordable. The 128GB version is priced at ₹79,900 (earlier ₹89,900) and the 256GB model at ₹89,900 (earlier ₹99,900).

Apple has not yet revised the official prices of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 models, but if past trends are any guide, similar reductions of ₹8,000–₹10,000 are expected in the days ahead.

The company usually discontinues the Pro and Pro Max variants of older generations immediately after new launches.

iPhone 17 unveiled

At its “Awe Dropping” event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, Apple took the wraps off its iPhone 17 lineup — iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The new devices are powered by the A19 processor, feature larger displays, and will go on sale in India from September 19.

The iPhone 17, priced from $799 in the US, debuts a 6.3-inch ProMotion 120Hz display on a non-Pro model, alongside a 48MP rear camera and AI-powered “Center Stage” front camera.

India prices: 256GB – ₹82,900; 512GB – ₹1,02,900.

Apple also launched the iPhone 17 Air, its thinnest iPhone ever at 5.6mm. It will be available in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and Sky Blue.

India prices: 256GB – ₹1,19,900; 512GB – ₹1,39,900; 1TB – ₹1,59,900.

The iPhone 17 Pro introduces a new aluminium unibody, liquid cooling with a vapour chamber, and a triple-camera system with 48MP sensors across all lenses.

India prices: 256GB – ₹1,34,900; 512GB – ₹1,54,900; 1TB – ₹1,74,900; 2TB – ₹2,29,900.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max, at the top of the range, offers the largest display, longest battery life and storage up to 2TB.

India prices: 256GB – ₹1,49,900; 512GB – ₹1,69,900; 1TB – ₹1,89,900; 2TB – ₹2,29,900.

Other announcements

The Cupertino-based company also unveiled Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, AirPods Pro 3, new TechWoven cases and crossbody straps for the iPhone 17.

Apple rolled out iOS 26, watchOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26 and visionOS 26.

Tariff backdrop

The launch was Apple’s first major event since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House earlier this year and imposed new tariffs on imports.

While Apple continues to assemble iPhones mainly in China and India, it has kept pricing for the new lineup largely unchanged. The company has warned that tariffs could add more than USD 1 billion in costs this quarter.

Shares of Apple fell 1.6% in after-hours trading after the event.
