Apple is all set to launch its eagerly awaited iPhone 17 series at its product launch event, Awe Dropping, scheduled for Tuesday, September 9 at 10:30 PM IST. The event will take place at Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park.

The iPhone 17 Series lineup is expected to include iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, AirPods Pro 3, New TechWoven cases and crossbody straps for the iPhone 17, and an upgraded Apple Clear Case, along with new Apple Watch band styles and colours, are likely to be unveiled at the September 9 event.

Apple will also introduce its iOS 26 and other software platforms, including watchOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26 and visionOS 26

Notably, Apple is moving to year-based OS naming, as announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference 2025.

The possible announcements also include the launch of iPad Pro with the new M5 chip, upgraded MacBook Pro and the latest Apple Vision Pro. These launches could extend to October this year. Reportedly, Apple is also planning to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone in 2026.

Interested viewers can watch the livestream of the event directly on Apple’s official website or on the Apple YouTube channel.

Apple iPhone 17 series price and launch date

Apple hasn’t confirmed the prices for its new series. As per reports, the entry-level model is expected to start at around ₹86,000 in India. Pre-orders for the new models are expected to open on September 12 at 5:30 PM.

The official release of the latest series is September 19, when major stores are expected to start offering the new models to interested customers.

In the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), the Cupertino-based company hit record high annual sales in India at $9 billion, recording a 13% increase in its revenue against $8 billion reported in the year-ago period, a Bloomberg report noted.

Many last-minute leaks have shown what the new iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max models could offer, including enhanced camera, design and battery.

Expected features of iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

  • Apple may introduce a part-aluminium, part-glass design on the rear panel in its new iPhone series, eliminating the use of titanium altogether.

  • The Pro model in the latest iPhone 17 series could come with a redesigned camera island, including a rounded rectangle camera bar. The Pro model is expected to include a triple camera setup, and the Pro Max model could have a thicker build of approximately 8.7mm.

  • The Pro models are also expected to feature a new anti-reflective glass, potentially making it more scratch-resistant as compared to the current Ceramic Shield display.

  • The iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to get an upgraded 48MP telephoto camera with up to 8x zoom and a 24MP selfie camera. The Pro models could also capture 8K videos and have a dual video recording feature.

  • The Pro models could get a major battery life. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to feature a 5000mAh battery, and Apple might also introduce software-based enhancements to offer a better battery life.

  • The iPhone 17 Pro models will have an A19 Pro chip, which is expected to be built with an upgraded version of TSMC’s 3nm process. The new models could also be upgraded to 12GB RAM.

Apple iPhone 17 Air

Apple’s ‘Awe Dropping’ event is expected to introduce a new ultra-thin, lightweight iPhone 17 Air. The thin build, however, could mean a shorter battery life and fewer cameras, making it a less ideal choice for many customers.

While the highlight of Apple’s big event on Tuesday will be the thin and light ‘iPhone 17 Air’, the device might not be the right purchase for most customers due to design tradeoffs, a Bloomberg report noted.

As per reports, the Air model could feature just one rear camera and a smaller battery, at a time when both Apple and Samsung are widely known for their multi-lens systems.

The MacBook Air, the thinnest laptop ever created, lighter than most other laptops in the category, also had battery, storage and processor issues during its launch. It’s important to note that while the first MacBook Air in 2008 was overpriced for an underpowered computer, it has now become the tech mogul’s best-selling computer.

The new iPhone Air could follow its steps by starting with low overall performance, but once the battery and chip get upgraded to the level of other Apple models, the company can roll out more ultra-thin smartphones with no design tradeoffs.
