According to an official statement, National Highways Authority of India, in association with concessionaire M/s Rajpath Infracon Private Limited, set records for the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete, the highest quantity of bituminous concrete laid in 24 hours, continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete, and continuous paving of 156 lane km.

On January 6, NHAI achieved two records near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh: the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete covering 28.89 lane km within 24 hours, and continuous laying of the highest quantity of 10,655 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete in the same duration.

These were achieved for the first time globally under a six-lane National Highway project, the statement said.

Two more records were created on January 11, including continuous paving of 156 lane km, surpassing the previous world record of 84.4 lane km. These feats were executed across Package-2 and Package-3 of the corridor.

The ministry said the records were achieved through the deployment of advanced construction equipment and machinery, including 70 tippers, five hot mix plants, one paver and 17 rollers, backed by stringent quality assurance systems.

“The process was monitored for quality control with the help of premier institutions including IIT Bombay, along with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety,” the statement read.

The 343-km-long, access-controlled six-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is designed for high-speed and safe travel and includes 17 interchanges, 10 wayside amenities, a 5.3-km-long tunnel, and a 21-km stretch passing through forest areas.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to reduce the travel distance between Bengaluru and Vijayawada by about 100 km and cut travel time by nearly four hours, significantly improving connectivity between the Rayalaseema region and the coastal and northern parts of Andhra Pradesh, the ministry added.
