SUMMARY

The UIDAI has set June 14, 2025, as the last date for Aadhaar holders to update their details online for free.

Aadhaar free address update

Residents, especially those who haven’t updated their Aadhaar in over 10 years, are advised to verify and update their Proof of Identity and Address documents.

The deadline for Aadhaar holders to update their details online free of cost nears the end after the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) extended it for six months in December 2024.

Residents have time until June 14, 2025, to make changes without paying any fee.

After this date, starting June 15, a fee of ₹50 per request will be applicable for updates through UIDAI’s self-service portal. The same fee is already charged for offline updates.

UIDAI had earlier extended the free update window from December 14, 2024, giving residents six additional months to revalidate their details online.

The authority recommends individuals, particularly those who were issued Aadhaar over 10 years ago and have never updated it, to review and update their records to maintain accuracy. Keeping Aadhaar information current helps in ensuring seamless access to government and private sector services.

What can be updated?

Residents can update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) online through UIDAI’s self-service portal.

How to update Aadhaar details online:
  • Log in using the Aadhaar number and OTP sent to the registered mobile number

  • Upload scanned copies of valid PoI and PoA documents

  • Submit the request

  • Note the Update Request Number (URN) to track the status

To update the address:
  • Visit the UIDAI self-service update portal

  • Click on ‘Proceed to Update Address’

  • Enter the new address and upload proof

  • Submit the request

  • Retain the URN for tracking

Once the request is approved, the updated Aadhaar can be downloaded from the same portal.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued to Indian residents, widely used as proof of identity and address. It is linked to a range of government welfare schemes and private services.

UIDAI, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is the statutory authority responsible for managing the Aadhaar ecosystem and providing secure, verifiable digital identity to residents.
