Diwali 2024 is just days away, and office-goers and families have started planning for the long weekend. Banks will remain closed in many states to mark Diwali (also called Deepavali, the festival of lights) and related festivals.

As per the bank holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks in many cities will be closed on October 31, November 1, November 2 and November 3 (Sunday).

Diwali 2024: Check the state-wise list of bank holidays

  • October 31 (Thursday): Banks in Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and other states will be closed for Diwali/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birthday anniversary/Naraka Chaturdashi/Kali Puja.
  • November 1 (Friday): Banks in Maharashtra, Mizoram, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir and other states will remain shut for Laxmi Pujan/Deepawali/Kut/Kannada Rajyothsava.
  • November 2 (Saturday): On the occasion of Bali Pratipada, Balipadyami, Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Pooja, and Vikram Samvant New Year Day, banking operations will be shut in the following states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
  • November 3 (Sunday): Banks in all states and union territories (UTs) will be closed on Sunday.

Bank holidays in November 2024

  • November 1 (Friday): Banks will be closed for Diwali, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birthday anniversary, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja.
  • November 2 (Saturday): The public and private lenders will be closed for Diwali (Bali Pratipada), Balipadyami, Laxmi Puja (Deepawali), Govardhan Pooja, and Vikram Samvant New Year Day.
  • November 3: Sunday
  • November 7 (Thursday): Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Chhath.
  • November 9: Second Saturday
  • November 10: Sunday
  • November 8 (Thursday): Chhath and Wangala festival will be observed on this date.
  • November 12 (Tuesday): Banking operations will be closed in Uttarakhand on the occasion of Egaas-Bagwaal.
  • November 15 (Friday): Guru Nanak Jayanti, Karthika Purnima, and Rahas Purnima will be celebrated on this date.
  • November 17: Sunday
  • November 18 (Monday): Karnataka will observe Kanakadasa Jayanti on this date.
  • November 23: Fourth Saturday
  • November 24: Sunday
