British rock band Coldplay’s Ahmedabad concert tickets for January 25 were sold out within minutes of going live on Saturday, November 16.
Announced on November 13, the band’s fourth show in India, on January 25, will be held in the Narendra Modi stadium.
Here are five things you need to know about how the Ahmedabad concert ticket sales played out.
The tickets went live on the booking site BookMyShow and the online waiting room was opened at 11 am on Saturday.
As the tickets went live at noon, fans were placed in a virtual queue, with some finding themselves in positions as high as two lakh or even five lakh. The South Central Bay 2, the highest-priced tickets at ₹12,500 were sold out within 10 minutes of going live. Likewise, the tickets costing ₹4,500 were gone in a few minutes.
Similar to the Mumbai concert, the tickets originally priced at ₹12,500 were being sold on other sites at an inflated value of ₹1.40 lakh.
Netizens were understandably frustrated, as one user posted on X, “Barely 5 mins into the ‘official’ sale of #Coldplay Ahmedabad concert, @TicketonViagogo is selling tickets for 5-6x.”
Thirty minutes after the January 25 tickets went live at 12 pm, fans waiting in the queue were greeted with a notification stating “Last few seats left for the show on January 25, 2025. A 2nd show has been added for January 26, 2025, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The queues will start at 12:45 pm today and the tickets will go live at 1 pm.”
The message gave some hope to people who were waiting in the queue in the lakhs.
However, the hope was soon shattered as the Republic Day Coldplay tickets were sold out within a few minutes of going live.
One user took to X to express her frustration, stating, “Doesn’t matter if they add ten more; the result will still be the same—nobody gets through. All thanks to the ticketing partners they chose.”
On November 13, when the first Ahmedabad concert was announced, the hotel prices in the area skyrocketed.
The Ahmedabad concerts have been touted as a “monumental milestone” for the British rock band as nearly 1 lakh fans are expected to attend the show at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium.
This is set to be the biggest-ever stadium show for Coldplay.
The January 2025 India leg of Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres” world tour starting in Mumbai on January 18, marks their first performance in the country after 2016.
