New Tax Regime vs Old Tax Regime deductions and exemptions for ITR filing 2025: The income tax deductions and exemptions currently available under the old tax regime will become useless for salaried taxpayers earning up to ₹12 lakh when filing ITR for AY 2026-27 (FY 2025-26) next year.
This is because normal income, excluding special rate incomes, up to ₹12 lakh has become tax-free under the new tax regime from FY 2025-26.

If you are also one of those taxpayers having below ₹12 lakh income, ITR season 2025 may be the last time when you might be claiming these income tax deductions under the old regime.

However, not all of these deductions and exemptions are available under both old and new tax regimes. Here's a final checklist of the tax-saving options under both tax regimes that you can claim when filing ITR this year for income earned in FY 2024-25 (AY 2024-25).
