A taxpayer recently found that his tax information summary (TIS) has an entry about the purchase of an immovable property worth ₹2.6 crore. However, he had never made such a purchase. He took to social media to share the issue and seek help from the Income Tax Department's social media handle.

"@IncomeTaxIndia My TIS says I bought property of 2.64 crore but that not true. How to report this abuse and get this fixed?," the taxpayer who goes by the name Vikas Rao posted on X while tagging the tax department on August 27, 2025.

TIS is a summary of financial transactions for the financial year compiled from more detailed annual information statement (AIS).

In the lead-up to the ITR filing due date on September 15 for non-audit filers, many taxpayers have reported wrong entries in their tax information summary and annual information statement (AIS).

Such wrong entries can be corrected by giving feedback on the financial transactions data in AIS.

"There is an option for giving feedback on the SFT data populated in AIS. -Login to e-filing account - click on AIS -The taxpayer will be re-directed to the Compliance Portal. -On Compliance portal, the feedback can be registered by visiting ‘SFT Information’ tab and submitting feedback as ‘Information is denied’. As per feedback in AIS, the TIS will get updated accordingly," the Income Tax department said while replying to Rao's query.

The Income Tax department further asked the taxpayer to write with PAN and mobile number or call for any further details.

"If you need any further assistance, you can write to us with your details (along with PAN & your mobile number) at cmcpc_support@insight.gov.in. Our team will get in touch with you. Alternatively, you can contact the AIS portal Help Desk at Toll free number 1800-103-4215," they said.
Recently, a user had claimed that his AIS was showing repeated entries for mutual fund transactions. The tax department responded to him, saying the taxpayer can give feedback on the SFT data in AIS to correct the error. (Read more about the incident here).

Please note that the due date to file ITR for AY 2025-26 without paying any penalty is September 15, 2025.

As of Monday, September 1, 2025, data on the Income Tax portal shows over 4.18 crore taxpayers have filed their returns, while more than 3.97 crore returns have been verified by them. The Income Tax department has processed 2.74 crore verified returns.
