The Income Tax e-filing portal is working fine. And it is not down or slow. Taxpayers shouldn't believe in any such rumours or social media posts that may claim that the IT portal is down or not working properly. Instead, they should focus on filing their returns as soon as possible.

Even the Income Tax Department confirmed that the e-filing portal is working fine. In case you face any issues, you should try again after clearing your browser cache.

"Our checks show that the e-filing portal is working fine. You may please try again after clearing your browser cache or by using an alternate browser," the Income Tax Department said in response to a user's query on X.

Responding to another user's query, who claimed to be facing issues with the TRACES portal, the Income Tax department said, "TRACES website is working fine. Please try again after clearing the browser cache. If you still face any issues, please write to us with your details (TAN/PAN, IP address & mobile number) at contactus@tdscpc.gov.in. Our team will get in touch with you."
It also responded to a similar query about AIS portal saying, "Our checks show that the 26AS & AIS/TIS facilities are operating without any issues. Please share your details (along with your mobile number & public IP address) with us at cmcpc_support@insight.gov.in. Our team will connect with you. You can also contact the AIS portal Help Desk at Toll free number 1800-103-4215 for assistance with any issues related to AIS/TIS."
The due date to file ITR for AY 2025-26 (FY 2024-25) is just three days away. There is very little chance of another due date extension as the Income Tax department has already once extended the due date from July 31 to September 15, 2025. This extension was announced in May 2025.

Failure to file ITR by the due date can lead to a late fee of ₹5000 if your income is above ₹5 lakh and ₹1000 for income below ₹5 lakh. You may also end up paying extra interest any tax due.
