Will Budget 2026 slabs impact your tax calculation?

No. The tax slabs announced in Budget 2026 will be applicable for AY 2027-28, which will be known as Tax Year 2026-27 after the new Income Tax Act 2025 comes into effect from April 1, 2026.

For AY 2026-27, tax slabs relevant for FY 2025-26 will apply. Check the slabs and rates here.

The slabs and rates to be announced in Budget 2026 will be useful while returns for FY 2026-27 in 2027.

What is expected from Budget 2026?

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is not expected to further tweak tax slabs, especially those under the new tax regime, in Budget 2026. In view of the government's push for the new regime over the last few years, no significant change is expected in the old tax regime either.

If the above assumptions hold, then the Finance Bill 2026 will simply repeat the slabs and rates that were announced in the previous year and the tax calculation process for Tax Year 2026-27 will remain same as AY 2026-26.

However, the finance minister is expected to use the Budget 2026 to fine-tune existing tax laws or announce some minor tweaks for the benefit of some sections of taxpayers.
