With the ITR filing deadline approaching fast, many taxpayers are raising their tax-related issues with the Income Tax Department on social media through X.

One such user, who goes by the name CA Ajit Mehta, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, complained that his Annual Information Statement (AIS) is showing repeated entries for mutual fund units purchased in the demat account and sold through NSDL and CSDL.

AIS is a comprehensive statement of all financial transactions and tax-related information for a specific financial year. This is provided by the Income Tax Department.

AIS is an important document for verifying all your financial data while filing ITR. Taxpayers should ensure there is no data mismatch to avoid any trouble from the taxmen in the future.

"Mutual Fund units purchased in Demat & sold captured through NSDL & CDSL and same transactions repeated in AIS through KFIN & CAMS while data capture shud happen for physical folio only,"Mehta said.

Responding to the issue raised by the user, the Income Tax department suggested the following solutions:

There is an option for giving feedback on the SFT data populated in AIS. For this, login to e-filing account and then click on AIS.

"The taxpayer will be re-directed to the Compliance Portal. On Compliance portal, the feedback can be registered by visiting ‘SFT Information’ tab and submitting feedback as ‘information is not fully correct'," the tax department said.

For any further assistance, the user may write to the Income Tax department with details (along with PAN & mobile number) at cmcpc_support@insight.gov.in.

Alternatively, one can contact the AIS portal Help Desk at the Toll-free number 1800-103-4215.

The due date to file ITR for AY 2025-26(FY 2024-25) for non-audit cases is September 15, 2025. Taxpayers should try to file their returns as early as possible to avoid last-minute rush and faster refunds, if applicable.
