What is SIF?

A Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) is a type of mutual fund made for complex or niche strategies. It offers high-reward opportunities by investing in niche segments like long-short strategies, derivatives, structured debt, etc. SEBI introduced the SIF framework in early 2025, enabling mutual funds to offer hedge-style products with a minimum ticket size of ₹10 lakh.

SIFs provide a balance between mutual funds, portfolio management services (PMS) and alternative investment funds (AIFs) by combining the trust offered by mutual funds’ transparency and flexibility of PMS and investment strategies that go beyond traditional MFs.

Many other asset management companies have also filed for SIFs, including Edelweiss’ Altiva SIF.
