SUMMARY

India’s aviation market currently works on a dynamic pricing model, where ticket prices change in real-time based on demand and competition. The model is effective for revenue management but often causes frustration due to unpredictable last-minute fares, especially during the festive season.

The broader vision is to make India’s aviation more passenger-centric, Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation launched a fixed airfare scheme called Fare se Fursat on Monday, October 13, under which the Indian government’s regional carrier, Alliance Air, will offer fixed flight fares.

Minister of Civil Aviation Shri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu inaugurated the ‘Fare Se Fursat’ initiative by Alliance Air, aimed at eliminating fluctuating airfares and promoting ease of flying.

Alliance Air will offer a single, fixed fare that will remain constant, regardless of the booking date, even if it’s booked on the day of departure.

This scheme will be implemented on a pilot basis from October 13 to December 31, 2025 across select routes in the country to evaluate its operational feasibility and passenger response, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a release on Monday.

“The ‘Fare Se Fursat’ scheme perfectly aligns with the core principles of the UDAN scheme. Today, Alliance Air is carrying forward Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of democratizing aviation and making it affordable for the middle class, lower-middle class and neo-middle class,” the minister said at the launch.

The system will eliminate uncertainty and stress associated with fluctuating airfares. Air travel is costly, and most individuals do it only in emergencies or when they need to go home, but all the trains are booked. The fluctuating fare prices cause stress and limit air travel accessibility.

“The static fare system eliminates uncertainty and stress associated with fluctuating airfares, ensuring predictability of costs, even for last-minute bookings,” the release said.

The minister also said that the broader vision is to make India’s aviation more passenger-centric.

“Since taking charge of the Ministry, my focus has been on making aviation more people-oriented. Inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision under UDAN, we have launched Udan Yatri Cafes offering tea for ₹10, coffee for ₹20 and snacks for ₹20 at airports. It is making air travel more dignified and affordable. Now we are taking a step further and addressing the major concern of passengers, which is the airfare,” he said.

Alliance Air and air travel accessibility

Alliance Air is a regional airline that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Indian Government. It primarily operates domestic routes as part of the government's Regional Connectivity Scheme (RGS). The RGS is aimed at making air travel more accessible and affordable.

Rammohan Naidu said that Alliance Air is the backbone of the RGS UDAN, connecting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to the national aviation network.

“Alliance Air has taken a bold and exemplary step with the idea of One Route, One Fair. It is truly ‘Naye Bharat ki Udaan’ thinking beyond profitability and keeping the focus on public service,” he said.

India’s aviation market currently works on a dynamic pricing model, where ticket prices change in real-time based on demand and competition. The model is effective for revenue management but often causes frustration due to unpredictable last-minute fares, especially during the festive season.

The Fare se Fursat initiative is expected to encourage first-time flyers from smaller towns to travel by air, the release said.

“The initiative is also expected to encourage first-time flyers from smaller towns to opt for air travel, strengthening Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making air travel available, accessible and affordable,” it said.

The regional carrier plays an important role in ensuring last-mile air connectivity and contributes to the vision of ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’, it added.

With the upcoming festive season, flight fares have already been increasing, making it hard for individuals to make their travel plans for Diwali. Read here in detail.

For this, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked airlines to keep Diwali season airfares reasonable and to ensure that they increase capacity by adding more flights to meet demand.

Minister Rammohan Naidu, on October 10, directed airlines to maintain reasonable prices on their flight tickets during the upcoming festive season.

To book flights under the Fare se Fursat initiative, you can book flights operated by Alliance Air. If the pilot succeeds, other airlines could also introduce fare stability, at least for festive seasons or emergency situations.
