UAE Blue Residency entry visa application rules: If you are a sustainability advocate or expert and plan to live in the UAE, here's a chance. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has opened applications for a 180-day multiple-entry visa, which will facilitate the completion of all necessary procedures for the long-term Blue Residency programme.

This article explains all the key details you need to know about the Blue Residency programme and the entry visa.

Eligibility: Who can apply for the UAE's Blue Residency entry visa?

The UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) is currently allowing individuals living outside the UAE to apply for the multiple-entry visa, which will be initially valid for 180 days. After the completion of the necessary procedures for the Blue Residency programme within 180 days, the visa may be extended up to 10 years.

The UAE's official website says, "This visa is given to supporters of environmental action, including members of international organisations, international companies, members of associations and non-governmental organisations, global award winners, and distinguished activists and researchers in environmental work."

As per Gulf News, the following categories of sustainability advocates/experts working in the field of environment, climate change, sustainability, clean and renewable energy, can apply for the Blue Residency entry visa:
  • Distinguished influencers

  • Scientists and researchers, subject to approval of the UAE Scientists Council

  • Investors and entrepreneurs

  • Specialists, or professionals working within the UAE

Blue Residency entry visa to eligible applicants will be given around the clock.

How and where to apply for the Blue Residency Visa

Eligible Blue Residency aspirants can start the process for the Blue Residency Visa by applying at the smart services portal of the ICP. One can also apply through the UAEICP mobile application.

Applicants will need to provide the required information and necessary documents. After paying the applicable fees, they will receive the transaction confirmation via email.

The documents required for this application are: a copy of passport, which has been valid for no less than 6 months, a recent coloured photograph, and supporting documents that will help in verifying eligibility for the blue residency.

Blue Visa prorgamme history

The Blue Visa system was first announced in 2024. The visa programme aims to complement the UAE's golden and green residency programmes. It is also seen a part of the UAE's ongoing efforts in the field of sustainability.

In February 2025, the UAE announced the launch of the first phase of this visa programme. It had then said that initially, 20 sustainability thought leaders and innovators will receive the Blue Visa.
