The redemption price for the final SGB redemption due on November 20, 2025, has been fixed at ₹12,300 per unit of SGB.

The maturity amount will be credited directly to the linked bank accounts of investors who bought this SGB series at its initial issue price of ₹2,951 per gram.

SGB redemption today: How the redemption price is calculated

The redemption price of SGB shall be based on the simple average of the closing price of gold of 999 purity of the previous three business days from the date of redemption, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).

Accordingly, the redemption price for final redemption due on November 20, 2025, shall be ₹12,300/- (Rupees Twelve Thousand Three Hundred only) per unit of SGB based on the simple average of the closing price of gold for the three business days i.e., November 17, 2025, November 18, 2025, and November 19, 2025.

316% absolute returns for these SGB investors

The bond was originally issued on November 20, 2017, at a price of ₹2,951 per gram. With the maturity payout now fixed at ₹12,300, investors stand to earn an absolute return of 316%, excluding the additional annual interest of 2.5% that SGB holders have been receiving during the tenure.

The absolute return amounts to ₹12,300 minus ₹2,961, which equals ₹9,349 (excluding interest). This represents a return of 316%, calculated as (9,349 ÷ 2,951) × 100.

Can you still invest in SGB?

The primary issuance of SGB by the RBI on behalf of the Government of India is done in periodic tranches. The scheme has been discontinued for fresh subscriptions. The Government of India announced the discontinuation of SGB, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed it during a post-budget briefing for the Union Budget 2025.
Investors who wish to purchase SGBs must now do so on the secondary market. You need a demat account with a stockbroker to buy SGBs from exchanges.

The last Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) was issued in February 2024 (2023-24 Series IV) priced at ₹6,263 per gram.
