A viral message circulating on social media in the name of the State Bank of India (SBI) has sparked concern among users, claiming that the SBI YONO app will be blocked if Aadhaar details are not updated.

The message instructs users to download and install an APK file to complete the Aadhaar update process, warning that failure to do so may result in restricted access to the banking app.

However, this claim has been flagged as fake by the Press Information Bureau under its #PIBFactCheck initiative.

According to the clarification, SBI does not ask users to download APK files or to share sensitive information, such as Aadhaar details, banking credentials, or personal data, through unofficial channels. The bank has reiterated that any such messages should be treated as fraudulent.

Users are strongly advised not to click on suspicious links or install unknown applications, as these are common tactics used in phishing and financial fraud attempts. Downloading APK files from unverified sources can compromise device security and lead to loss of sensitive information.

SBI has also urged customers to remain cautious and verify any such communication through official channels. In case of suspicious messages or potential fraud attempts, users should report them immediately to the bank at report.phishing@sbi.co.in for necessary action.

With the rise in digital banking usage, experts continue to stress the importance of cyber hygiene, including avoiding unsolicited downloads and safeguarding personal and financial information. Users should always rely on official banking apps and websites for updates and never act on urgency-driven messages.

The advisory serves as a reminder that official institutions like SBI will never request confidential details through informal messages, and users should stay vigilant against such scams to protect their finances.
