With the latest revision, the price of a non-subsidised 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased to ₹913, according to data available on the website of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). The revised prices came into effect from March 7.

Non-subsidised LPG cylinders are used by most urban households and consumers who do not receive subsidies under government welfare schemes. As a result, the latest increase is expected to directly impact the monthly household budgets of many middle-class families that rely on LPG for daily cooking.

The hike marks the second increase in domestic LPG prices in the last 11 months. Prices were previously raised by ₹50 in April last year. Oil marketing companies periodically review cooking gas prices based on several factors, including international energy prices, currency movements and supply conditions in global markets. The latest increase has been attributed to higher energy prices following geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which have pushed up crude oil and natural gas costs worldwide.

LPG prices vary across cities due to differences in state-level taxes and value-added tax (VAT). Following the latest revision, the price of a non-subsidised LPG cylinder now stands at ₹912.50 in Mumbai, ₹939 in Kolkata and ₹928.50 in Chennai.

However, the government has not changed prices for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which provides subsidised LPG connections to over 10 crore low-income households across the country.

Earlier this month, oil companies also raised the price of commercial LPG used by hotels, restaurants and other establishments by ₹114.50 per 19-kg cylinder. In Delhi, a commercial LPG cylinder now costs ₹1,883.
