But have you ever heard of Know Your Vehicle ( KYV)? While it might sound similar to KYC, KYV serves a completely different purpose. It is a regulatory requirement specifically for FASTag users and is designed to ensure that the FASTag is correctly linked to the right vehicle.

In short, just as KYC verifies you, KYV verifies your vehicle. KYV has quickly become a topic of discussion among vehicle owners.

What is KYV?

KYV (Know Your Vehicle) is a regulatory requirement for all FASTag customers to upload specific images related to their FASTag. According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)'s October 2024 circular, re-KYV is to be done every three years.

Why is KYV required?

This is introduced to ensure that the FASTag has been issued for the correct vehicle, with the correct vehicle number, and that the FASTag has been affixed to the windshield.

The KYV process mandates vehicle owners to upload clear, well-lit images of their vehicle.

The process requires:

  • Front view photo showing vehicle edges, number plate, and FASTag

  • Side view showing front and rear edges

  • Internal photo of the FASTag sticker showing the serial number
  • Digital RC copy from authorised apps (no screenshots or edited versions)

What is the validity of KYV?

As per guidelines, KYV will be valid for three years. After three years, re-KYV would be due, and customers will have to re-upload the images.

Users vent frustration over KYV verification on social media platform X.

The KYV process has not gone unnoticed by users, many have taken to X to share their experiences.

One user wrote: "Struggling to get 'Know Your Vehicle' done on ICICI Fastag for vehicle KA03MW0930. Pics uploaded 10 days back and fastag customer providing no solution but to wait. Please help."

Another said: "Sir, how to do Know Your Vehicle (KYV) mandatory verification when neither @ICICIBank_Care nor @AmazonHelp is allowing you to perform. Check the video and see the harassment of millions of users."

And one user joked: "Govt keeps inventing new ways to keep an eye on you, first KYC (Know Your Customer), now KYV (Know Your Vehicle)... next might be KYY (Know Yourself), KYF (Know Your Family & Friends), and KYI (Know Your Income). Bas ab KYM (Know Your Mind) baaki hai."

KYV is mandatory for FASTag compliance, and a clear, streamlined process can help prevent delays and difficulties for vehicle owners.
