SUMMARY
Banks and financial institutions charge their customers a servicing fee for cash transactions, including deposits and withdrawals. These charges vary on the basis of several factors like account type (savings, current, etc.), and it's important for customers to be aware of them. Since many banks offer free transaction limits, individuals can avoid paying extra by staying within those limits.
Many banks also have different cash transaction charges on home branches and non-home branches.
Banks have also installed cash deposit machines (CDMs), and cash deposit charges are applicable on these as well.
Let’s take a look at the cash deposit charges applicable to ICICI Bank account holders:
For cash transactions from a regular savings account at a base branch, ICICI Bank offers free cash deposits and withdrawals for the first three transactions every month.
After this, ₹150 will be charged per transaction. Additionally, transactions of up to ₹1 lakh are free per month. If any transaction exceeds this, ₹5 will be charged per ₹1,000, or a fee of ₹150, whichever is higher. At a non-base branch, a fee of ₹5 per ₹1,000 is charged for transactions above ₹25,000 in a day, or ₹150 per transaction, whichever is higher. For a third-party transaction, the cash deposit limit is capped at ₹25,000 per day.
For cash deposits from a classic current account at the base branch, cash deposits up to ₹2.5 lakh, or 25 transactions, whichever is lower, are free of cost. Charges above the free limit are not specified on the ICICI Bank website.
At Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs), ₹50 will be charged per transaction if the deposit exceeds ₹10,000 in a month (as single or multiple transactions).

Cash transaction at non-base branch | Up to ₹25,000 per day free | ₹5 per ₹1,000 or ₹150 per transaction, whichever is higher, for amounts over ₹25,000
Third-party cash deposit | Limit: ₹25,000 per day | Not specified beyond limit
Current Account | Cash deposit at base branch | Up to ₹2.5 lakh or 25 transactions per month (whichever is lower) free | Charges beyond limit not specified on ICICI Bank website |
Cash Deposit Machines | Cash deposit | Up to ₹10,000 per month (single or multiple transactions) free | ₹50 per transaction beyond ₹10,000 |
Banks and financial institutions have different rules for cash transactions. Some banks don’t charge a separate fee on deposits through CDMs, but have a limit on the deposits and the amount of notes accepted by the machine in a single transaction. Many banks also have different cash transaction charges on home branches and non-home branches. It is important to check these charges before making cash transactions, so you remain fully aware.
