How to change your PAN Card address online

PAN details can be changed through both online and offline platforms. 

A Permanent Account Number (PAN) card is one of the most important identification documents in India. Permanent account number, a ten-character alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department, is crucial for several financial transactions, tax filing and more.

Accurate details on the PAN card are necessary for identification, and errors can cause issues with the authorities. In case of any mistake on the PAN card, it is important for the PAN cardholder to get it corrected.

Even if there is no mistake and you have changed the address on which the PAN was originally issued, you should update it. PAN details can be changed through both online and offline platforms. While your address isn't mentioned on the PAN card, it is still an important many reasons, including communication, KYC and legal implications.

Steps to change PAN card address

If you wish to update or change your PAN card address online, you will need your PAN card copy, ID proof (like Aadhaar card), address proof, and proof of date of birth (like birth certificate). Here are the detailed steps:

Filling in the Online PAN Application
Step 1: Go to the official website for PAN services managed by Protean eGov Technologies (formerly NSDL e-Gov).
Step 2: Find the Change/Correction in PAN Data section and click on Apply now.
Step 3: Fill out the application form for the Online PAN Application. In the application type, choose Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card and fill all the other details accordingly.
Step 4: Enter the Captcha Code and submit the application.
Step 5: Take note of the Token Number you must have received in the email address you provided. It will help resume the application if it gets interrupted.

Document submission

Step 1: Click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’.
Step 2: Choose one of the three submission modes: Online (paperless eKYC and eSign with Aadhaar OTP), Upload scanned images and eSign or Send documents physically. If you wish to do the entire process online, select the ‘Submit digitally’ option.
Note: For offline submission, select the physical submission option and post your documents to this address: Income Tax PAN Services Unit, Protean eGov Technologies Limited: 4th Floor, Sapphire Chambers, Baner Road, Baner, Pune, 411045
Step 3: If you need a physical copy of the updated PAN card, select ‘Yes’ on the dispatch preference. You may have to pay extra charges for the physical copy.
Step 4: Go to the Aadhaar section and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
Step 5: Select the fields you want to update and fill in the corrected information. Click on Next. On the contact details page, enter your updated details (number, address, email, etc.)
Step 6: Attach valid proof of updates, like address proof, and a copy of your current PAN card.

Declaration and verification

Step 1: Enter your full name to provide the declaration and mention your current place of residence.
Step 2: Upload photo and signature. Make sure the files are in the required format. Click on submit.
Step 3: To verify that you have provided accurate information, enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar number.

Payment and eSign

Step 1: Pay using your preferred method and save the receipt of the transaction.
Step 2: Start Aadhaar verification by accepting the terms and clicking on Authenticate
Step 3: Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and proceed.
Step 4: Select ‘Continue with eSign’, and accept the terms and conditions.
Step 5: Finally, enter your Aadhaar number, click on send OTP and verify.

Remember to download the acknowledgement form (Password: Date of Birth in DD/MM/YYYY format).

Having a PAN card with up-to-date information is important. So, if you don’t want any issues with banking, filing taxes or other financial transactions, make sure your PAN is updated.
