EPS 95 data: How many pensioners get less than ₹1500, ₹4000 and ₹6000 per month from EPFO

EPS 1995 data shared by the Government says around 80 lakh pensioners are receiving a monthly pension of less than ₹6000, of which over 49 lakh are getting less than ₹1500 per month.

The total investment corpus of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995 was over ₹9.9 lakh crore as of March 31, 2025.

However, when it comes to monthly pension, around 80 lakh pensioners are receiving a monthly pension of less than ₹6000, of which over 49 lakh are getting less than ₹1500 per month, according to the data shared by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

  • Number of pensioners receiving less than ₹1,500 as monthly pension as on 31.03.2025: 49,15,416.

  • Number of pensioners receiving less than ₹4,000 as monthly pension as on 31.03.2025: 78,69,560

  • Number of pensioners receiving less than ₹6,000 as monthly pension as on 31.03.2025: 80,94,949.

According to Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, the total number of contributory members under Employees' Pension Scheme, as on March 31, 2025 is 5,38,63,699.

The total number of pensioners under EPS 95 as on March 31, 2025 is 81,48,490.

In a written reply, the minister shared that EPFO’s total investment corpus in EPS 95 as on March 31, 2025 was ₹9,92,689.56 crore. (Unaudited at face value)

In FY 2023-24, the EPFO released around ₹23,027 crore as total pension disbursement, preceded by ₹22,112 crore in FY 2022-23 and ₹21,304 crore in FY 2021-22.

EPFO's income in 5 years

Replying to the query on details of interest and other income generated from the corpus during the last five financial years by EPFO, the minister shared the following numbers:

  • FY 2020-21: ₹41,472.14 crore as interest income and ₹274.04 as other income (Penal damages, 7Q interest, etc.)

  • FY 2021-22: ₹50,613.95 crore in interest income and ₹370.71 crore as other income (Penal damages, 7Q interest, etc.)

  • FY 2022-23: ₹52,171.00 crore in interest income and ₹564.21 crore as other income (Penal damages, 7Q interest, etc.)

  • FY 2023-2024: ₹58,668.73 crore in interest income and ₹863.62 as other income (Penal damages, 7Q interest, etc.)

Inoperative accounts

The total amount held in inoperative accounts as March 31, 2025 is ₹10,898.07 crore. The data is unaudited and provisional as Annual Accounts for the FY 2024-25 are under preparation.
