EPFO services now on DigiLocker: Check PF account balance, passbook anytime, anywhere

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers with Android smartphones can now check their PF balance and passbook on DigiLocker from anywhere at any time.

EPFO services are now available on DigiLocker. Members can access their EPFO documents anytime, including their UAN Card, Pension Payment Order (PPO), and Scheme Certificate, the EPFO said in a social media post on X on Friday, July 17, 2025.

Through Digilocker, individuals can connect to the UMANG app, which is a mobile application developed by the Indian government to provide easy access to a wide range of central and state government services, and view their PF balance and passbook.

While the option to download the passbook through the UMANG app has existed for a long time, direct access through DigiLocker has been introduced now for Android users to make the process more efficient and convenient via one app. The facility could soon be extended to iOS users, as currently, they are being notified to download the UMANG app when trying to access the passbook through DigiLocker.

UAN activation

In another post on X on July 18, the EPFO said that members can easily authenticate their Universal Account Number (UAN) through Face Authentication via the UMANG app. UAN activation is necessary to avail of the benefits under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme.

Under the ELI scheme, PM Modi has launched a set of three schemes as part of his broader plan to provide employment and develop skills in four crore youth with an outlay of ₹2 lakh crore.

UAN activation is also necessary to access EPFO’s online services like withdrawing funds, updating contact details and checking EPF balance.

The EPFO recommends that its members activate their UAN and link their Aadhaar to bank accounts to access all the digital services provided by EPFO and claim the benefits under the ELI scheme.
