The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has taken several steps in the last 1-2 years to simplify the claims settlement process for PF account holders. The Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, recently highlighted these steps in a written reply to various queries in the Rajya Sabha.

You should know about these changes going into the new financial year 2025-26, starting from April 1, 2025:

1. Enhanced auto claim settlement: For auto mode processing of advance claims, the amount limit has been increased to ₹1 lakh. Moreover, in addition to illness/hospitalisation advances, the advances for housing, education, and marriage have also been enabled through auto mode processing.

According to the minister, 60% of advance claims are now processed in auto mode. Moreover, these auto-mode claims are processed within three days.

In the current financial year, EPFO has settled 2.16 crore auto-claims till March 6, 2025. In 2023-24, only 89.52 lakh claims were settled in auto mode.

2. Simplified correction process: The minister said that the member details correction process has been simplified. Now, members having Aadhaar-verified UANs can make corrections in their IDs themselves, without any EPFO interventions.

Currently, around 96% of corrections are being done without any EPF office intervention, she said.

3. Simplified PF transfer: Now, there is no need for the employer’s attestation of Aadhaar-verified UANs in PF transfer claim requests. The minister said that currently, only 10% of transfer claims require member and employer’s attestation.
4. No need to submit cheque leaf: There is no need to submit a cheque leaf with the claim form now. "The requirement for submitting a cheque-leaf with the claim form has also been relaxed for KYC-compliant UANs meeting prescribed criteria," the minister said.
5. Guidance on ineligible claims: The minister said that certain upfront validations have been developed by EPFO to guide members about eligibility/admissibility of claims. This has been done to ensure that members do not file ineligible claims

The EPFO is now receiving over 99.31% claims in online mode, without any requirement to visit the field office. In FY 2024-25 as on March 6, 2025, 7.14 crore claims were filed in online mode.

Apart from the above, the EPFO is further simplifying the claim settlement process with centralisation of member databases under CITES 2.01. Additionally, as part of EPFO 3.0, stakeholder consultations have been held for transforming EPFO into a "future-ready, member-centric, and a technology-driven organisation," the minister said.
