It seems the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started crediting the EPF interest for FY 2024-25 to member passbooks. Although the EPFO has not sent formal emails or messages, several members have seen an increase in their PF account balances.

Recently, the government ratified the rate of interest on employees' provident fund at 8.25% for FY 2024-25. The government's approval enabled the retirement fund body to deposit the annual interest into PF accounts of over 7 crore members.
Earlier in February, the EPFO's board had decided to retain the EPF interest rate at 8.25% for the FY25.

How to check PF interest credit in EPF passbook?

You can check the interest credited to your EPF account for the last financial year in your EPF passbook. Members can access their passbooks by logging in to the EPFO's Member Passbook portal.

You can follow the steps below to access the EPF passbook and check your latest balance.

Step 1: Visit the EPF passbook login page
Step 2: Enter your Universal Account Number (UAN), password, and captcha to log in.
Step 3: After entering the above details, you will receive an OTP on your mobile number. The number must be linked to your EPF account. Enter the OTP for successful login.
Step 4: After logging in, you will see a page similar to the one below on a desktop, displaying the total balance in your account, including both the employer's and employee's shares. Please note that the view on a mobile phone will be different.

On the right, you can see the balance against different member IDs, from your current and previous employers. Some member IDs will show zero balance if they are already merged with your current PF account or if you have already withdrawn the full amount from them.

Balance from different member IDs can be merged through the EPFO portal by initiating a transfer request.

Step 5: Click on the "Passbook" button in the NAV bar (highlighted in red in the above screenshot) to access your passbook. If your member IDs are not merged, you may select the member ID to see the interest credited.

This page provides a breakdown of year-wise employee and employer contributions as well as interest earned in a graphical format. While these details are mentioned in the passbook, which can be downloaded as a PDF file, the graph on the passbook portal makes it easy to understand.

For example, the following is a screenshot of an EPF member's passbook page on the official portal, providing details of employee contribution, employer's contribution, and the interest earned in different colours. When you hover over a color, the exact amount for that item is displayed.

In case the interest is not credited to your PF passbook, you may wait for some time for it to reflect, failing which you may raise a dispute with the retirement fund body.

Please note that logging in to the EPFO passbook may take some time as the portal is often very slow.
