Fraudsters and scamsters find unique ways to deceive people, especially through the internet. Individuals who are not tech-savvy or are more gullible than others often fall into their traps and end up sharing their important personal and financial information, exposing themselves to many risks.

Recently, PIB Fact Check warned taxpayers of a familiar phishing tactic in which people are asked to follow certain steps if they want to download an e-PAN card.

“Have you also received an email asking you to download e-PAN Card? This email is fake. Do not respond to any emails, links, calls & SMS asking you to share financial & sensitive information,” PIB Fact Check said in a post on X on Monday, July 6, 2025.

These phishing emails have a subject line similar to “Download e-PAN Card Free Online: A Step-by-Step Guide”. Clicking on the link provided in the email can redirect you to a fake webpage asking for your details. If you have received such emails, you can report them by forwarding the email to webmanager@incometax.gov.in and incident@cert-in.org.in.

Upon receiving a phishing email, the Income Tax Department advises individuals to refrain from replying, clicking on any links, or opening any attachments. Further, don’t copy and paste the link on your browser as the link can redirect you to fraudulent websites.
