The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has once again extended the deadline for Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking Aadhaar with bank accounts under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme to March 15, 2025.

In order for beneficiaries to avail of benefits under the ELI scheme, UAN activation and Aadhaar seeding (linking) must be completed. The original deadline by the PF body was set as November 30 and has been extended three times to give members sufficient time to finish the process. The latest deadline is set in the upcoming month for March 15 from the previous deadline of February 15.

".....the competent authority has granted an extension of the timeline for UAN activation and AADHAAR seeding in bank account till March 15, 2025," a circular by the Ministry of Labour & Employment dated February 21 said.

Three schemes were launched under the Employment Linked Incentive in the Union Budget 2024 as a part of PM Modi’s combination of five schemes for job creation and skill development. These schemes are expected to benefit over four crore youth with an expected investment of ₹2 lakh crore. To be eligible for the ELI scheme, UAN activation and Aadhaar linking is essential.

Activating UAN is important to access services provided by the EPFO like withdrawing EPF funds online and checking balance. Linking of Aadhaar with a contact number can allow beneficiaries to directly transfer their EPF funds to their linked bank accounts.

How to activate UAN online?

UAN activation can be done online through the EPFO Member Sewa portal. New EPF members can complete their activation by following these steps:

Step 1: Go to the EPFO Member Sewa portal.
Step 2: Click on ‘Activate UAN’ under the ‘Important Links’ section.
Step 3: Submit the required details including UAN, Aadhaar, date of birth and phone number.
Step 4: Enter the OTP received on the registered number to finish the process.
