The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday, December 5, 2025, reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) or 0.25% to 5.25%. With this announcement, the central bank has cut the key policy rate by 125 bps (1.25%) in 2025.

"After a detailed assessment of the evolving macroeconomic and financial developments and the outlook, the MPC voted unanimously to reduce the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) to 5.25 per cent," the RBI Monetary Policy Statement said.

The latest repo rate cut is set to reduce the EMI burden of borrowers having repo-rate-linked home loans.
The 25 bps repo rate cut will help reduce repo-linked home loan interest rates and, in turn, EMIs or the total loan tenure of borrowers.

Banks have already passed on the benefit of the repo rate cuts till now to borrowers. The benefit of the latest rate cut is also likely to be passed on to eligible borrowers soon.
