Are you one of those struggling to complete your EPF e-nomination? You may not be alone. Several EPF members have taken to online forums to report that they are unable to proceed with the e-nomination process because the EPFO Unified Member Portal is not saving their profile photo, despite uploading it as per the prescribed specifications.

The issue has come into the spotlight after a Reddit user, Sea_Director_5780, shared their experience of getting stuck in what they described as an "endless loop" on the EPFO portal.

According to the post, every time they log in, the portal prompts them to complete their e-nomination. But when they try to proceed, they are first asked to upload a profile photo. Although the user resized the image to the required 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm dimensions, kept the file size below 100 KB, and followed the prescribed guidelines, the photo failed to save. After clicking 'Preview and Upload', the page simply refreshed and the default grey avatar reappeared.

The user said they had already tried clearing the browser cache and switching browsers, but the problem persisted. They also expressed concern that repeated login attempts could eventually restrict access to their account before they are able to complete the nomination process.

While the Reddit post reflects one user's experience, other members in the discussion also reported facing similar issues with the profile photo upload feature.

Why the profile photo matters

An updated profile photo is mandatory for submitting an EPF e-nomination. It serves as a visual identity for the member and helps in the faster processing of provident fund claims. Unless the photo is successfully uploaded and visible on the member's profile, the e-nomination process cannot be completed.

How to update your EPF profile photo

  • Log in to the EPFO Unified Member Portal using your UAN, password and captcha.

  • Go to Profile.

  • Select the option to upload or update your profile photo.

  • Upload a recent passport-size photograph and save the changes.

  • Ensure the photo is visible on your profile.

  • Then go to Manage > E-Nomination to add your family details and nominee share.

Meanwhile, EPFO members may start seeing the annual interest for FY 2025-26 credited to their provident fund accounts from July 15, as the retirement fund body begins depositing interest at the approved rate of 8.25% per annum.
