**Aadhaar update charges revised: **The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has updated the charges for Aadhaar services. The new rates will apply from October 1, 2025.Aadhaar is an important identity document for Indian residents.

While getting an Aadhaar for the first time is free, updating the details on it, like your photo, fingerprints, or address, may incur some charges depending on the type of update and how it is done.

Here is a simple explanation of the charges applicable from 1st October 2025.

Aadhaar enrolment & update charges (Effective from 1st October 2025)

Aadhaar enrolment: Free

Aadhaar updates
Biometric update (Fingerprint, Iris, Photo)

Age 5–7: Free (One-time)

Age 15–17: Free (One-time)

Others: ₹125

(Free for ages 7–15 till 30th Sept 2026)

Demographic update (Name, gender, DOB, address, mobile, email)

Along with biometric update: Free

Separately: ₹75

Document Update (Proofs for name, gender, DOB, address):

Online via myAadhaar portal: Free (till 14th June 2026)

At Aadhaar Centre: ₹75

The UIDAI, in an Office Memorandum dated September 29, 2025, stated: “The Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) service is free of cost to the children in the age groups of 5-7 years and 15-17 years. To reduce the MBU pendency in the mission mode, the Authority has decided to waive off the charges to be collected from the Aadhaar number holders for carrying out MBU-l in the age group of 7-15 years for a period of one year, till September 30, 2026.”

How can I change my first name or full name?

You should provide a notification copy of the Gazette (anyone from the State or Union Govt.) and an old POI with the name mentioned in Aadhaar. In the Gazette, address details should match your Aadhaar.

What updates can I make through online services?

Residents can update their address online. In addition, the document update facility is also available online.

How many types of updates can a resident do?

A resident can do a biometric update (Face, IRIS, and fingerprint), demographic update (Name change, DOB, gender, or address), and document update (if the resident has not changed any demographic detail in the last 8-10 years).

If someone wants to change their Aadhaar picture, can they change it? Is there any limit to the number of times they can change their picture? What is the process?
Yes, there is no limit applicable to the picture update on Aadhaar. If somebody wants to change their picture on Aadhaar, they need to visit a nearby Aadhaar center and request for bio update, and a fee of Rs 100 is applicable; no such limit is imposed on the updation of picture.
What documents are required for a name & dob change correction request beyond the limit?

Accepted documents include a birth certificate, a passport, PAN, or any government-approved proof of DOB. Gazette notification, marriage certificate, court order, or other legal documents proving the necessity of the name change, or you can refer UIDAI website to explore the document list.

How long does it take to update Aadhaar details?

Updating Aadhaar details typically takes 30 to 90 days, depending on the type of update and verification process.
