The Central Government announced the decision to set up the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) for its employees and pensioners in January 2025. Since then, the process of constitution of the 8th CPC for the benefit of Central Government employees has been in full swing.

It is expected that the 8th CPC may start its work soon after a decision on its terms and members by the Union Cabinet.

When it comes to state government employees, there hasn't been much buzz in states since the 8th CPC announcement by the Central Government in January.

However, a report now says that the state government of Tripura is actively considering the formation of the 8th CPC for its employees.

According to a report by India Today NE, Tripura's Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy informed the state Assembly on April 1, 2025, that the issue of 8th CPC formation was “under active consideration" of the Tripura Government.

The minister made this statement in response to a query raised by an opposition member in the Tripura Assembly.

The report further quoted the minister as saying that no state in India has taken a final decision on the formation of the 8th CPC. However, he assured the Assembly that Tripura would make "an informed decision on the issue when the time was right."

The minister also confirmed that the disbursement of dearness allowance (DA) to state government employees is being done regularly. Additionally, the state government is also working to reduce the gap between the DA received by central and state government employees.

Please note that the 8th Pay Commission set up by the Centre will help only the Central Government employees and pensioners. All pay-related decisions of the state government employees are taken and managed by the respective state governments.

Meanwhile, the Standing Committee of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) will have its next meeting on April 23, 2025. The meeting may decide the terms of reference of the 8th CPC for Central Government employees and pensioners.
