8th Pay Commission constitution: Process to appoint top officials of 8th CPC starts; check pay scales

In the follow-up to the above circular, the government has also started the process for appointing top officials of the new pay commission. The Ministry of Finance has sought applications for the posts of directors and secretaries in the 8th Pay Commission, which is expected to begin its work soon.

As per the recent vacancy circulars issued by the ministry, two directors/deputy secretaries and three undersecretaries will be appointed in the 8th Pay Commission.

"It is proposed to fill up the 02 DS/Director and 03 Under Secretary posts from Central Secretariat Services in 8th Central Pay Commission on deputation basis. These posts are to be staffed for the period from the date of constitution of the 8th CPC till the closure of the Commission," the Department of Expenditure (DoE) under the Ministry of Finance said in the vacancy circular dated April 17, 2025.

"This is an open-ended circular, meaning that applications will be considered on a continuous basis until all vacancies are filled. Therefore, it is requested to submit the duly filled/verified applications at the earliest," it added.

Pay scales of top officials

Two directors/deputy secretaries will be appointed in the 8th Pay Commission. They will be brought in on deputation from the Central Secretariat Service.

The pay scale for a director would be equivalent to Level 13 of the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

The pay scale for the deputy secretary will be equivalent to Level 12 of the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

Three undersecretaries will be appointed in the 8th Pay Commission. They will also be brought in on deputation from the Central Secretariat Service.

The pay scale for undersecretaries will be equivalent to Level 11 of the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix.
