The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) account interest rate for the October-December quarter of FY 2025-26 was announced by the Ministry of Finance on September 30, 2025. The Ministry had then decided to keep the interest rate of this popular scheme for the girl child unchanged.

We will update this article with the revised SSY account interest rate after the announcement by the Government today. In the past, we have extensively covered details about the SSY account. If you are still interested in knowing more about this small savings scheme for the girl child then take a look at its key features below:

The SSY account is an exclusive savings scheme for the girl child. You can open a SSY account in the name of your girl child aged up to 10 years in the post office and banks.

The scheme is currently offering 8.2% interest per annum, compounded annually. Moreover, the SSY interest rate is currently offering 8.2% interest, which is higher than most of the fixed deposit interest rates offered by major banks like State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, and others.

There has been no change SSY account interest rate since April 1, 2024. Small savings schemes like SSY, SCSS, and PPF track the yields of G-secs of comparable maturities in the secondary market.

Who can open an SSY account?

SSY account can be opened by a guardian in the name of a girl who has not yet turned ten years old as of the date of opening the account. In a family, a maximum of two SSY accounts can be opened in the name of two girls.

However, more than two accounts may be opened in a family if the children are born in the first or second order of birth (or both), provided an affidavit is submitted by the guardian, along with the birth certificates of the twins or triplets, confirming their birth order.

The guardian is required to operate the SSY account until the account holder reaches the age of 18. After that, the account holder can take control of the account upon submitting the required documents.
