The PPF interest rates are decided as per the recommendations of the Shyamala Gopinath Committee. The rate is linked to the average yield on 10-year government securities (G-Secs) from the previous quarter, plus a spread of 25 basis points.

The Government decides interest rates for small savings schemes, such as SCSS, based on the recommendations of the Shyamala Gopinath Committee.

The Committee was set up in 2010. It had recommended to consider the secondary market yield of Central Government Securities (G-Sec) of comparable maturities along with a 0.25% spread for deciding the interest rates for various small savings schemes.

The Finance Ministry may announce the small savings schemes interest rates for the October-December quarter of FY 2025-26 today.
