The Union Ministry of Finance announced the Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) interest rate, along with other small savings schemes, for the January-March quarter of FY 2025-26 on December 31, 2025.

There is no change in KVP interest rate for January-March quarter.

The Kisan Vikas Patra interest rate for the October-December quarter of FY 2025-26 was announced by the Ministry on September 30, 2025. The Government had then also decided to keep the interest rate of this popular savings scheme unchanged at 7.5%.

The KVP interest rate has remained unchanged at 7.5% since April 1, 2023. The scheme is popular among small investors interested in a safer way to double their investment. At the current 7.5% interest rate, KVP can double your investment in 115 months (9 years and 7 months). Please note that the amount once deposited in a KVP account can be withdrawn only on maturity. However, premature closure is allowed under some conditions.

The maturity period of the deposit under KVP scheme is determined based on the rate of interest applicable at the time of opening the account.

KVP account can be opened in the post office by the following:

  • Single adult: The account can be opened by an individual adult.

  • Joint account: A joint account can be opened by up to three adults.

  • Guardian: A guardian can open the account on behalf of a minor or a person of unsound mind.

  • Minor: A minor above 10 years can open the account in their own name.

The KVP scheme is currently offering 7.5% interest rate per annum. One can start a KVP account with a minimum investment of ₹1,000. However, there is no maximum investment limit under the scheme.
