Dhanteras gold shopping guide 2025

Physical gold
Jewellery: This is ideal for those planning to wear or gift it to someone. However, it comes with making charges, which vary from jeweller to jeweller and piece to piece. Usually, gold making charges are between 8–25% and 3% Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Gold coins: This is good for investment. Gold coins or bars offer higher purity than jewellery.
Digital gold

In this form, the gold you buy is stored in secure vaults and can typically be redeemed either as physical gold or cash, offering a high degree of flexibility and liquidity, with no lock-in period in most cases.

You can buy small quantities of digital gold through platforms like MMTC-PAMP, Paytm, and PhonePe.

However, it's important to note that digital gold is not regulated by SEBI or the RBI, which makes it riskier compared to other gold investment options.

Gold ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds)

Gold ETFs are open-ended mutual fund schemes that invest in physical gold and are traded on stock exchanges, just like shares. Each unit of a Gold ETF typically represents 1 gram of 99.5% pure gold.

These are easily redeemable through your trading or demat account. Unlike jewellery, you don’t pay making charges or worry about physical storage.
Gold Mutual Funds
Gold Mutual Funds are open-ended mutual fund schemes that invest in Gold ETFs. They do not require a demat or trading account, making them more accessible to a wider range of investors.

They provide a simple and convenient way to invest in gold, especially through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), allowing you to invest small amounts regularly.

These funds are flexible, easy to access, and well-suited for retail investors looking to diversify their portfolios with exposure to gold without holding it physically.
