But before you buy gold, there is one thing you must not ignore, and that is authenticity. In a market flooded with options, how can you be sure the gold you’re buying is as pure as promised?

Well, a person can check the authenticity of hallmarked gold jewellery through the official mobile app of BIS, known as the BIS Care App. BIS issues a six-digit HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification) to every piece of hallmarked jewellery. The number is also printed on the hallmarked jewellery that you purchase.

How to check the purity of gold using the BIS app

To ensure your gold jewellery is genuinely hallmarked, start by downloading the BIS CARE app.
You can download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Sign in using your name, mobile number, and email ID.
To check if a piece of jewellery is properly hallmarked, tap on the ‘Verify HUID’ section in the app.
Now, enter the six-digit alphanumeric hallmark unique identification number HUID ( that comes with your gold item.
After entering the HUID, hit the ‘Search’ button. The app will then display all relevant details about the jewellery, such as:

-The jeweller’s registration number

-The assaying and hallmarking centre (AHC) name and address

-AHC registration number

-Type of article (ring, chain, etc.)

-Date of hallmarking

-Purity level (like 22K or 18K)
