According to Reuters, spot gold rose 1.6% to $4,124.89 per ounce by 0752 GMT on Thursday, November 5. Earlier in the session, it touched $4,146.63 per ounce, its highest level since October 20. The rally came amid a weaker US dollar, with global financial and oil markets also reacting to the fallout from the US midterm election results.

Gold futures rise on MCX

Gold prices also moved higher in the domestic futures market. According to a PTI report, gold futures for December delivery on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) rose by ₹1,947, or 1.37%, to ₹1,45,181 per 10 grams on Thursday.

The rise was supported by fresh positions created by speculators amid firm spot demand. Gold futures in New York also gained 1.24% to $4,110.88 per ounce.

Silver futures slip marginally

Silver, meanwhile, witnessed a marginal decline in domestic futures trade. According to PTI, silver contracts for December delivery on MCX fell by ₹28, or 0.01%, to ₹1,87,707 per kg.

Analysts attributed the decline to participants reducing their positions. In international markets, silver was trading 0.56% lower at $52.51 per ounce in New York.

What should Dhanteras buyers keep in mind?

With Dhanteras falling on Friday, November 6, buyers may be tempted to make their purchases ahead of the festive rush. However, the quoted gold rate is not necessarily the final amount payable at a jewellery store.

Making charges, applicable GST and other costs can increase the final bill. Prices can also differ across cities and jewellers. Buyers should therefore compare rates, check the purity of gold and understand the additional charges before making a purchase.

For those planning to buy gold or silver this Dhanteras, keeping track of both domestic retail rates and international market movements can help them make a more informed purchase.

Dhanteras 2026

Dhanteras will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2026. The festival is considered an auspicious occasion for purchasing gold, silver, jewellery and utensils, with many households traditionally buying precious metals as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.
