According to Goodreturns, on September 1, 2026, gold prices in major Indian cities were largely similar. In Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune, 24-karat gold was ₹15,676 per gram, 22-karat gold was ₹14,369 per gram and 18-karat gold was ₹11,757 per gram. In Delhi, the rates were slightly higher at ₹15,691 per gram for 24-karat, ₹14,384 for 22-karat and ₹11,772 for 18-karat gold. Ahmedabad and Vadodara also recorded slightly higher rates of ₹15,681, ₹14,374 and ₹11,762 per gram for 24-karat, 22-karat and 18-karat gold, respectively.
24 Karat: Started at around ₹14,950 and showed a strong upward trend, reaching a peak of approximately ₹16,450 around 24–26 Aug. It then declined slightly to about ₹16,200 by 1 Sep. Overall, it recorded the highest prices and the strongest absolute increase.
22 Karat: Began near ₹13,250, steadily increased to around ₹15,050 by 24–26 Aug, and subsequently fell to approximately ₹14,450 by 1 Sep. The trend closely followed the movement of 24K gold.
18 Karat: Started at approximately ₹10,850, climbed gradually to a peak of around ₹12,300, and then declined to roughly ₹11,800 by 1 Sep. It remained consistently below the 22K and 24K prices.
On 31 August 2026, the IBJA Daily Bullion Physical Market Report highlighted firm bullion prices, with the latest available India spot rates, as of 28 August, showing 999-purity gold at ₹1,59,578 per 10 grams and 999-purity silver at ₹2,43,892 per kg, excluding GST. The report also showed gold and silver continuing to trade at elevated levels, with the 999-purity gold PM rate unchanged at ₹1,59,578 and silver at ₹2,43,892, reflecting a strong bullion market.
Gold prices remained under pressure after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium.
However, silver remained steady at Rs 2,45,500 per kilogram (inclusive of all taxes), according to local traders.
Any change in import duty could affect domestic gold and silver prices, making the development relevant for consumers planning jewellery purchases as well as investors tracking precious-metal prices.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged Indians to avoid non-essential spending abroad, including leisure travel and overseas weddings, and to buy gold only when necessary.
In a selfie-style video message, Modi said Indians should refrain from taking leisure trips abroad, getting married overseas and purchasing gold unless it is essential.
