Dhanteras is on Friday, November 6, and Diwali on Sunday, November 8, and both cities typically see their heaviest footfall on the Dhanteras weekend.

Wednesday's rates rose ₹270 per 10 grams for 24 karat and ₹250 for 22 karat, which is a modest rebound from the 3.51% fall on October 31. Even after the gain, gold is about ₹12,000 per 10 grams below October's peak of ₹1,51,570.

Bengaluru's gold demand is usually split. Salaried buyers in the tech corridors lean towards 24 karat coins and bars, often in 5 and 10 gram units, while family purchases ahead of weddings prefer 22 karat. Mysuru's market is more traditional, with 22 karat dominating and little appetite for investment-grade bars. Coin buyers should note that the making charge is usually a flat slab, not a percentage.

Please note the rates above are indicative and a specific store may quote something different. Buyers should compare rates at multiple jewellers yourself before buying. The final payment will also be higher than the karat-based price because making charges and 3% GST are added. For instance, a 10-gram 22 karat piece with 8% making charges attracts GST of ₹4,152, taking the total to about ₹1,42,565.

Making charges often vary widely between the two cities and between showrooms within each. Buyers should compare them as carefully as the rate, and check that every piece carries a BIS hallmark and a six-digit HUID.
