Factors influencing gold rate in India

Gold prices in India are determined based on international spot rates, rupee-dollar exchange rate, government import duties, and demand-supply dynamics.

With the yellow metal in the international markets trading at a two-week high, gold prices on the MCX at around 9:50 am today were up 1.04% or ₹1,482 at ₹1,44,365 per 10 gm. In the previous session, the contract settled at ₹1,42,883 per 10 gm.

Spot gold traded higher by 1.24% at $4,128.46 per ounce, while the US gold futures for August delivery were up 1.39% at $4,133.25 per ounce.

The steep gains are said to have been driven by technical buying in bullion.

Meanwhile, investors are awaiting the US Federal Reserve meeting due next week (July 28-July 29) for cues on the central bank's interest rate path. As per the median estimate of economists in a Reuters poll, the Federal Reserve will hold the key policy rate for the rest of 2026 as it looks to keep persistent inflation in check.

Alongside, developments in the ongoing US-Iran conflict are on investors' radar.

Gold prices have remained firm in the last few days amid resilient buying in the global markets, robust physical demand and evolving geo-political situation.
