SGB premature redemption dates in October 2026

Four SGB tranches are scheduled for premature redemption during October 2026:

SGB 2019-20 Series VOctober 15, 2026September 14–October 5, 2026
SGB 2020-21 Series VIIOctober 19, 2026September 19–October 9, 2026
SGB 2020-21 Series IOctober 28, 2026September 26–October 19, 2026
SGB 2019-20 Series VIOctober 30, 2026September 29–October 21, 2026

Investors need to submit requests within the window

SGBs generally have an eight-year maturity period, but premature redemption is permitted after the completion of five years from the date of issue. The redemption price is linked to the prevailing gold price, as determined under the applicable RBI framework.

Investors should therefore check the series and issue date of their SGBs before submitting a premature-redemption request. Merely holding an SGB does not mean that it is eligible for redemption in October; only the specified tranches can be redeemed on the corresponding dates.

What investors should check

Before opting for premature redemption, SGB holders should verify the following:

  • The SGB series they hold and its issue date.

  • The applicable premature-redemption date in October 2026.

  • The last date for submitting the redemption request.

  • The process followed by their bank, post office, stockbroker or other intermediary through which the SGB is held.

  • The redemption price applicable to the relevant tranche.

Investors should also note that premature redemption is different from selling an SGB on the stock exchange. The RBI's premature-redemption facility applies subject to the eligibility and timing conditions specified for the particular SGB tranche.

The October schedule therefore gives eligible SGB investors four separate exit opportunities. However, investors should not wait until the redemption date itself, as the request must be submitted within the prescribed window.
