Snapping a six-day gaining streak, Indian equity benchmark NIFTY ended lower on Tuesday. Index made a cautious start following broadly negative cues from other Asian markets. Soon, the index slipped below the neutral line and continued its trade in red territory. Market participants opted to book profit at higher levels and remained on the sidelines ahead of the weekly F&O expiry.

On the technical front, the NIFTY50 index posted a bearish engulfing pattern on Tuesday, indicating a reversal in the trend and overall momentum. The index also closed below 26,000, indicating profit booking at higher levels.
