Stock market today: The domestic equity market slipped into the red in the morning trade on Friday, January 24.

At 10:19 AM, the S&P BSE SENSEX was trading at 76,330.99, down 189.39 points, or 0.25%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index was trading at 23,136.85, down 68.50 points, or 0.3%.

As many as 28 stocks on the NIFTY50 index were trading in the green, 20 in the red, and the remaining 2 remained unchanged.

The top five gainers on the index were Power Grid Corporation of India, Shriram Finance, BPCL, UltraTech Cement, and JSW Steel.
The top five losers were Dr Reddy's, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, and SBI Life.

HPCL: Shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) rallied as much as 4.9% to ₹379.95 apiece on the NSE on Friday, January 24, as the oil marketing PSU (public sector undertaking) reported a robust set of numbers for the quarter ended December 31, 2024 (Q3 FY5).

The PSU on Thursday reported more than tripling of its December quarter net profit as marketing margins soared.

Consolidated net profit stood at ₹2,543.65 crore in October-December 2024—the third quarter of the April 2024 to March 2025 fiscal year (FY25)—compared with ₹712.84 crore earnings in the same period a year back, according to a stock exchange filing of the company.

Dr Reddy's: Shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories declined as much as 6.66% to ₹1,203.50 apiece on the NSE, a day after the company reported its December quarter (Q3 FY25) results.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Thursday said its consolidated net profit increased 2% to ₹1,413 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 2024.

Revenue increased to ₹8,359 crore in the quarter from ₹7,215 crore in the year-ago period.

Broader Market

The BSE MidCap index was trading at 43,028.50, down 380.16 points, or 0.88%, while the BSE SmallCap index was trading at 50,699.57, down 550.72 points, or 1.07%.

Sector Watch

All sectoral indices were trading in the red on the BSE. Healthcare stocks were the biggest losers.

The BSE Healthcare index was trading at 42,545.94, down 597.65 points, or 1.39%.
