Muhurat Trading 2025 to light up Diwali on October 21: What we know so far

Muhurat trading 2025: Leading stock exchanges National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) will hold a one-hour special 'Muhurat Trading' session on the occasion of Diwali 2025 on October 21.

The session also marks the beginning of a new Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu calendar year that starts on Deepawali, and it is widely believed that trading during the auspicious hour, or 'Muhurat', brings financial growth and prosperity for the stakeholders.

"October 21, 2025, Tuesday, shall be a trading holiday on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Muhurat Trading will be conducted on that day," the NSE said in its trading holidays page.

When will Muhurat trading take place in 2025? Check date and time

As mentioned by NSE and BSE, the Muhurat trading for 2025 will take place on October 21. However, timings of Muhurat trading have not been notified by the NSE and BSE yet.

In Diwali 2024, the markets were open from 6 pm to 7 pm. In 2023, the special Diwali Muhurat trading occurred between 6:15 and 7:15 pm.

According to market experts, Diwali, which is called the festival of lights, is considered the ideal time to start anything new. Investors believe that trading during the Muhurat session benefits them throughout the year.

Since the trading only remains open for an hour, markets are known to be volatile. Usually, the focus in the special session is not on profitability but on the gesture, they added.

Trading typically takes place across various segments such as equity, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives, equity futures & options, and securities lending & borrowing in the same time slot.

Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) will also hold Muhurat trading on October 21, 2025. "Timings of Muhurat trading shall be notified subsequently," it said in its 2025 holiday list page.
