Muhurat Trading 2024: The stock exchanges—the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE—are all set to conduct annual Muhurat Trading between 6 pm and 7 pm on Friday, November 1, during the Diwali festivities.
The special session 'Muhurat', which takes place every year on Diwali, is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth. The session marks the commencement of a new Vikram Samvat- the Hindu calendar year. This time, it marks the start of Samvat 2081.
According to experts, during the Muhurat trading, the emphasis may be less on profitability and more on symbolic gesture.

"All trades executed in this Diwali Muhurat trading session shall result in settlement obligations," the NSE said in a circular.

How have markets performed during Muhurat trading?

Of the last 17 Muhurat Trading sessions, the BSE SENSEX has closed higher on 13 occasions. While the indices have ended positively most of the time, volumes are usually low, and only a limited number of stocks show any significant movement in the brief timeframe.

In the 2023 Muhurat Trading session, SENSEX skyrocketed 0.55%, or 354.7 points, to settle at 65,259. Out of the 30-share BSE benchmark index, 28 closed in the green.
