SUMMARY

The frontline indices started the morning session positively and continued to gain throughout the day to close at record high levels. NIFTY50 made a new lifetime high today, which was led by Infosys, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank. The Nifty Bank index closed up by 0.80%. The India VIX closed down by 2.93%.

Indian frontline equity indices ended their five-day losing in a style on Friday. The NIFTY50 and SENSEX surged by 428.75 and 1,292.92 points, respectively. The NIFTY50 index recorded its best single-day performance since June 7, 2024 and achieved a fresh all-time high of 24,861.15, surpassing the previous record set on July 19.

The rally in the NIFTY50 index was led by Infosys (+2.96%) and Bharti Airtel (+4.50%). The surge was broad-based, with all sectors ending in green on Friday. Notably, the Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma and Nifty IT hit a fresh all-time high. The Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma recorded their best single-day gains since June 5 and June 7, respectively. The Nifty IT index hit a fresh all-time high, soaring 2.36% and recording its best single-day since July 12.

On a weekly basis, the NIFTY50 index ended with a gain of 1.24% despite closing in the red for four out of five trading sessions. This weekly gain extended the index's winning streak to the eighth week, marking its best performance in over six years.

Top Gainers & Losers

In the NIFTY50 space, 47 stocks advanced, and 3 stocks declined. Shriram Finance (+9.52%), Cipla (+5.76%), Divi’s Lab (+5.39%), Bharti Airtel (+4.32%), and Apollo Hospitals (+4.14%) were the top gainers. Laggards included ONGC (-1.04%), Nestle India (-0.11%), and HDFC Bank (-0.02%).

Index Movers

Coming to the NIFTY50 index pullers and draggers, Infosys (+45.06 pts), Bharti Airtel (+37.88 pts), ICICI Bank (+30.4 pts), Reliance (+25.87 pts), and ITC (+24.24 pts) were the pullers of the day. Draggers included ONGC (-3.09 pts), HDFC Bank (-0.51 pts), and Nestle (-0.21 pts).

Broader indices

Today, the broader market closed in positive territory. The Nifty Midcap 100 gained by +1.81%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index gained by +0.97%. Market breadth was strong on Friday as the advancing stocks outnumbered the declining stocks.

Sectoral Indices

All the sectoral indices closed positively. The top five gainers were NIFTY Metal (+3.01%), NIFTY Healthcare (+2.73%), NIFTY Auto (+2.43%), NIFTY Pharma (+2.36%), and NIFTY IT (+2.30%).

Global Markets

The majority of the Asian markets concluded Thursday's trading session in green. The Hang Seng gained by 0.10%, the Shanghai index closed up by 0.14%, and the Kospi index surged 0.78%, while the Nikkei 225 Index closed down by 0.64%.

At 3:43 PM, the Dow Jones Futures were trading slightly up by 187 points at 40,379.
