Market wrap: NIFTY50 & SENSEX maintain winning streak; Tata Steel, Power Grid and Kotak Bank among top gainers

SUMMARY

The gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Metal up by 1.85%, Industrials up by 1.28%, Telecom up by 1.16%, Consumer Durables up by 1.15% and Basic Materials up by 1.12%. Meanwhile, the broader indices outperformed the benchmark as midcap and smallcap indices closed nearly 1% higher on Friday.

GIFT NIFTY futures indicate a positive start for NIFTY50 on Wednesday.

Markets close in green for second consecutive session.

Indian equity benchmarks managed to close higher on Friday, ahead of Q2FY26 earnings to kick start from next week. After making a slightly negative start, soon indices hovered near the neutral lines amid continued selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). However, markets turned positive and extended their gains in the final hour of trade, as some support came from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that India's capacity to absorb external shocks is strong at a time when the world economy is undergoing a structural transformation.

The SENSEX ended at 81207.17, up by 223.86 points or 0.28% after trading in a range of 80649.57 and 81251.99. 14 stocks were advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices ended in green; the BSE Mid-cap index was up by 0.78%, while the Small-cap index was up by 1.09%.

The gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Metal up by 1.85%, Industrials up by 1.28%, Telecom up by 1.16%, Consumer Durables up by 1.15% and Basic Materials up by 1.12%, while Healthcare down by 0.09% and Realty down by 0.09% were the only losing indices on the BSE.

The NIFTY ended at 24894.25, up by 57.95 points or 0.23% after trading in a range of 24747.55 and 24904.80. 26 stocks were advancing against 24 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Tata Steel up by 3.40%, Power Grid Corp up by 3.22%, Hindalco up by 1.88%, Axis Bank up by 1.85% and Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 1.80%. On the flip side, Max Healthcare Institute down by 3.95%, Coal India down by 1.33%, Eicher Motors down by 1.15%, Tech Mahindra down by 1.09% and Maruti Suzuki down by 1.00% were the top losers.

Netweb Technologies share price:Among the stock-specific developments, Shares of Netweb Technologies India soared 6.76% to an all-time high of ₹4,336.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, October 3.The company bagged two orders in September, one worth ₹450 crore and another worth ₹1,734 crore.

On September 19, the firm bagged a purchase order worth ₹450 crore for the supply of Tyrone AI GPU Accelerated Systems from “one of the largest Indian-headquartered global providers of technology distribution and integrated supply chain solutions”

Indigo share price:Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the operator of IndiGo Airlines, gained as much as 1% to ₹5657.5 apiece on the NSE in the early trade on Friday, October 3, as IndiGo is set to restart services connecting Kolkata and Guangzhou from October 26.
TruAlt Bioenergy listing:In the primary market, Shares of biofuels producer TruAlt Bioenergy made a strong debut on the stock exchanges on Friday, October 3.The stock listed at ₹545.4 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), reflecting a premium of 9.96% over the IPO issue price of ₹496.
