The market witnessed healthy buying in auto and healthcare counters.

At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at 78,699.07, up 226.59 points, or 0.29%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index settled at 23,813.40, up 63.20 points, or 0.27%.

Both benchmark indices gained about 1% each this week, after tumbling 5% last week, the most in 30 months, as the US Federal Reserve's projection of fewer rate cuts in 2025 dented the appeal for emerging markets.

Here is a look at the key developments of today's session.

Top gainers and losers

Out of 50 components in the NIFTY50 index, 30 advanced, and 20 declined.

The top five gainers were Dr Reddy's, IndusInd Bank, M&M, Tata Motors, and Eicher Motors.
The top five losers were Hindalco Industries, SBI, Coal India, ONGC, and BEL.

On the SENSEX, M&M (up 2.47%) was the top gainer, followed by IndusInd Bank and Bajaj Finance.

SBI, on the other hand, was the top loser.

Market Statistics

As many as 4,087 stocks traded on the BSE, out of which 2,026 scrips declined, and 1,948 advanced, while 113 counters remained unchanged.

As many as 155 stocks hit their 52-week highs on the BSE, and 72 stocks hit their one-year lows.

Further, five stocks hit their upper circuits, and 1 stock hit its lower circuit.

Buzzing Stocks

Greaves Cotton: Shares of Greaves Cotton were frozen at the 20% upper circuit limit at ₹282.07 apiece on the NSE. Recently, the company's material subsidiary, Greaves Electric Mobility, filed preliminary papers to raise funds via IPO.

The initial share sale will be a fresh issuance worth ₹1,000 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) of up to 51,000,000 by Greaves Cotton and up to 138,398,200 shares by Abdul Latif Jameel Green Mobility Solutions DMCC.

Mamata Machinery: Mamata Machinery, a limited manufacturer of machines used for making plastic bags, stood out as the stock was listed with a premium of nearly 147% on the stock exchanges.

Shares were listed at ₹600 apiece on the NSE, a premium of 146.91% to the issue price of ₹243 apiece. On the BSE, the stock debuted at a premium of 146.91% at ₹600 apiece.

The stock ended 5% higher at ₹630 apiece on the NSE.

Sagility India: Shares of newly listed Sagility India Ltd rallied for a ninth straight session to hit their all-time high of ₹53.86 apiece on the NSE on Friday. The stock was listed on the exchanges on November 12 at ₹31.06 apiece, up 3.53% against the initial public offering (IPO) price of ₹30 per share.

Broader Market

The BSE MidCap index ended at 46,325.58, down 39 points, or 0.08%, while the BSE SmallCap index settled at 55,048.12, up 154.91 points, or 0.28%.

Sector Watch

Auto and healthcare stocks saw healthy buying in the session.

The BSE AUTO index ended at 52,219.55, up 446.58 points, or 0.86%, while the BSE Healthcare index ended at 44,638.11, up 348.16 points, or 0.79%.
